Lucia is celebrated on 13 December. According to popular belief, it was a dangerous night, when supernatural forces were on the rampage. All the preparations for Christmas Eve were supposed to be ready by then, and people celebrated with something special to eat and drink. Today, Lucia is a big celebration in Sweden and Skåne, with Christmas songs and the Lucia procession, and tasty saffron buns, enjoyed with a glass of piping hot mulled wine.

Christmas Eve, 24 December, is the major festival when relatives meet up to celebrate Christmas together at home, with dancing around the tree, a bountiful buffet, Christmas games, presents and a visit from Father Christmas. The next day, Christmas Day, is more peacefully celebrated. In many places, Christmas Day is marked with an early service in church, with the congregation in their seats by 7 a.m.

Take the opportunity to experience a genuine Christmas in Skåne, where we really know what a proper Christmas should be like.
